Shannon Exploration’s main activity is the interpretation of remote sensors and their applications to petroleum exploration programs and engineering projects, anywhere in the world. The main remote sensors are:

• Satellite imagery

• Aerial photography

• Satellite and airborne radar

The principal applications are:

• Combine the interpretations with geophysical results (gravity, magnetics, and seismic)

• Analyze the tectonic framework of sedimentary basins and the structure of select areas

• Evaluate large areas and "zero in" on prospective areas

• Locate oil slicks in offshore areas

Other Shannon Exploration applications include:

• Location of landfills

• Evaluation of dump sites for power plants

• Location of active faults in the Houston area

• Evaluation of potential sites for the Super-Conducting Super-Collider

• Search for fishing structures offshore China

It must be emphasized that the remote sensors only record data from the Earth’s surface, and this is usually sufficient for engineering projects. However, for petroleum exploration, in many areas, features such as lineaments, radial patterns, tonal anomalies, and large subtle trends, can be correlated with known subsurface structures, some quite deep. The objective is usually to identify surface features that correlate with known subsurface structures and then to find similar surface features in areas with no subsurface control.
